CARBON REDUCTION

Both Hotel Villa Gomera and Hotel Marquesa Puerto de la Cruz comply with renewable energy guidelines of hotels in Spain. Spain's guidelines for hotels are evolving, with mandatory energy efficiency standards that require improvements like installing solar panels by 2030, and a broader push for hotels to reduce energy consumption and adopt renewables to meet EU goals. Key steps include improving insulation, installing energy-efficient appliances, and potentially achieving energy savings certifications. The island of La Gomera has a 100 percent sustainability action plan which was signed by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Ministry of Economy, Knowledge, and Employment, the Island Council of La Gomera, and the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC). The action plan involves the launch of seven unique and innovative projects which promote energy self-consumption, the smart use of solar energy, and micro grid energy storage. The island of Tenerife holds the Biosphere Destination Certificate issued by the Responsible Tourism Institute.

There are vegan vegetarian options and other special dietary needs can also be catered for. Food will be predominantly locally sourced and seasonal. Hotels and restaurants will be compliant with Spain and EU minimum standards and regulations

We will be walking for 5 days. We use a boat transfer rather than flying between the 2 islands of La Gomera and Tenerife. Any transport is shared.


ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Both islands have Low Emission Zones (LEZs): To combat air pollution from tourism, the islands implement LEZs that restrict access for more polluting vehicles in certain areas. As of October 2025 an eco-tax has been introduced to help fund environmental protection measures. There are projects focused on renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind farms, and decarbonizing the power sector. Laws protect the island's clear skies, which are a major asset for astronomy, and measures are in place for responsible tourism during nighttime viewing. La Gomera has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The island is part of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Natural Areas (CETS), an initiative from the EUROPARC Federation that has the objective of promoting the development of sustainable tourism in the protected spaces of Europe. This initiative involves the administrations and the private sector working together for a sustainable tourism model on an island which is very well preserved and which attracts thousands of visitors each
year. Tenerife - 48% of the Island is covered by 43 protected nature areas that make Tenerife a natural paradise.

All guides hold the Spanish official Outdoors and Mountain Guide qualification. All are Spanish nationals.

This is a walking holiday but people with vision and hearing or cognitive issues may find thissuitable if they travel accompanied.
