Catalonia
Catalonia is one of Spain's greatest surprises - the first one being the number of times you'll be told you're not "in Spain".

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

This self-guided, centre-based walking tour in Catalonia is based in Tossa de Mar, with guests walking between 9-23km per day. It is, by its very nature, slow and sustainable, taking guests along sections of the Camí de Ronda and into the Massís de Cadiretes on foot.

With all of our tours, we encourage our guests to travel to and around Spain using buses and trains whenever possible. As guests stay in the same boutique hotel throughout the trip, this reduces the number of accommodation moves during the holiday, while still allowing them to explore coastal trails, forest paths and mountain viewpoints directly from Tossa de Mar.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This walking tour takes guests through the coastal and inland landscapes around Tossa de Mar, including sections of the Camí de Ronda and Massís de Cadiretes, a mountainous wildlife reserve. The routes pass through cork oak forests, granite outcrops, pine woods, open scrubland, coves and cliff trails along the Costa Brava.
We remind guests to practise Leave No Trace throughout their trip, especially when walking through coastal paths, forest trails, coves and the Massís de Cadiretes.
With regards to drinking water, we ask guests to bring refillable water bottles as well as a reusable shopping bag to avoid single-use plastic during their trip. We also ask guests to take any packaging away with them and be mindful of not dropping litter.
We have an in-house responsible tourism expert, who shares tips and advice with our guests in trip notes, blogs and newsletters. For example, on how to reduce their impact on the environment and wildlife, support responsible travel practices and respect the places and communities they pass through.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Accommodation on this centre-based tour is in a boutique hotel in Tossa de Mar. It has been carefully selected based on a variety of criteria including its location, warm hospitality, good local food and connection to the area.
As guests are based in Tossa de Mar throughout the trip, their spending can support local businesses over several days, from shops and cafés to restaurants and local services. Breakfast is included every day, and guests are encouraged to buy lunches and snacks in local shops, pre-order packed lunches from some hotels where needed, and dine in restaurants in the local area.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

All of our partners in Spain are locally employed and play an important role in contributing to the local economy. At home, we have a strict policy to pay all our own employees and team members a living wage and fair wage, with holiday entitlement. In the hiring process, we prioritise experience, qualifications and passion, emphasising that race, gender, sexual orientation, or nationality are not factors of consideration. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace based on skills and expertise. We also endeavour to support any guests with visible and non-visible disabilities or any special requirements, when possible.
