Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION
All four lodges on this route run on solar power — Moivaro Lodge, Ngorongoro Farm House, Ndutu Safari Lodge and Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge — reducing reliance on diesel generators across the whole itinerary. Vegetarian and vegan meals are available at every lodge as standard, not on request, and much of the produce served at Moivaro and Ngorongoro Farm House comes from their own coffee estates. We calculate the carbon footprint of every trip we plan, giving clients a clear figure for their journey before they book, rather than a vague estimate after the fact.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Every guide on this itinerary is Tanzanian, drawn from the Arusha area, and trained in responsible wildlife viewing — safe distances, reading animal behaviour, and avoiding crowding at sightings. Park and conservation fees are built into the price, funding Tarangire, Ndutu, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, all four of which this route depends on directly.

LOCAL ECONOMY
All four lodges on this route — Moivaro, Ngorongoro Farm House, Ndutu Safari Lodge and Kubu Kubu — are majority Tanzanian-owned, keeping the bulk of accommodation spend in the country rather than with an international chain. Day 1 includes a visit to Shanga, a social enterprise near Arusha where artisans with disabilities craft glassware and jewellery from recycled materials, entirely step-free. Day 7 stops at a family-owned coffee farm near Karatu, run by the family who grow, harvest and roast the coffee themselves, with a seated tasting built into the visit.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
Around 95% of the guides and ground staff working this itinerary are from the local area in Tanzania. Our ground partners pay at least Tanzanian minimum wage, and support several Tanzanian charities and NGOs, particularly those focused on women's rights and employment. The trip itself is designed specifically for travellers who use wheelchairs, with an adapted vehicle, verified accessible lodges, and rooms confirmed before travel.
