CARBON REDUCTION

The journey focuses on three main regions, Mexico City, Oaxaca and the Yucatán Peninsula, with several nights in each destination. This allows more time to explore each region rather than moving between a large number of stops.

Domestic flights connect Mexico City, Oaxaca and Mérida, while private road transfers are used for excursions within each region. Once in each destination, walking tours offer opportunities to explore historic centres and neighbourhoods on foot, experiencing the character of each place at a more relaxed pace.

The itinerary also includes visits to working agricultural landscapes, particularly the chinampas of Xochimilco and the milpa in Yaxunah. These experiences introduce travellers to traditional food growing practices and the relationship between local agriculture, regional ingredients and culinary heritage.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

The journey includes several experiences connected with the cultural and natural landscapes of Mexico, from the agricultural waterways of Xochimilco to the countryside and traditional farming practices of the Yucatán.

In Xochimilco, the visit to a working chinampa introduces travellers to an ancient agricultural system that remains part of the area's living heritage. The experience with Arca Tierra focuses on the preservation of these farming traditions and the challenges facing the chinampa landscape today.

In Yaxunah, the visit to a local milpa offers insight into traditional cultivation methods, including the sowing and harvesting of regional crops. The surrounding landscape also includes cenotes, natural sinkholes that hold cultural and historical significance in Mayan traditions.

The itinerary's emphasis on cultural landscapes, traditional agriculture and locally guided experiences provides opportunities to understand how communities have shaped and maintained their environments over generations.

LOCAL ECONOMY

This journey brings travellers into contact with local guides, artisans, farmers and community hosts, offering opportunities to learn about the traditions and skills that shape each region.

In Mexico City, the visit to Xochimilco introduces the ancient chinampa farming system and the people working to keep it alive. The experience with Arca Tierra includes a visit to a working chinampa and a meal prepared with ingredients harvested nearby, connecting the city's food culture with the agricultural landscape that surrounds it.

In Oaxaca, visits to traditional weaving families and local markets offer insight into regional craftsmanship and everyday life. In Teotitlán del Valle, travellers meet a weaving family and learn about the techniques and natural dyes behind the community's distinctive textiles. In Becal, the visit to a hat making workshop introduces the skill and patience involved in traditional palm weaving.

In Yaxunah, a community hosted experience brings travellers into a Mayan village to learn about traditional cooking, horticulture and craft making. Preparing a meal alongside local hosts and visiting workshops provides a closer understanding of the skills and traditions that remain part of everyday life.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

The itinerary includes private guiding and community hosted experiences across Mexico City, Oaxaca and the Yucatán, creating opportunities to learn directly from people with knowledge of the places and traditions being explored.

Visits with farming families, weavers and craftspeople offer insight into different livelihoods and cultural traditions, while the experience in Yaxunah provides an opportunity to learn about contemporary Mayan life and ancestral food practices.

The journey is privately arranged, allowing flexibility in pace and activities where possible. Its emphasis on cultural exchange and local knowledge encourages travellers to engage thoughtfully with the people and places they encounter.
