Description of Gozo family activity holiday in Malta
A Gozo family activity holiday that offers a wonderful opportunity to explore this Maltese island in the middle of the Mediterranean. Gozo is a much-underrated destination when it comes to family fun, the adventures here beginning the minute you take the ferry from Malta and start taking in the island’s stunning seascapes. This is a small group tour, with no more than 24 people so that children have a chance to enjoy the company of other young people during their week of adventures.
On this holiday all the activities are included in the price and every day is different. From snorkelling or Discover Scuba Diving, to rock climbing on the magnificent Gozitan cliffs, you will either be on the water or peering down onto it. Gozo is definitely an action-filled and exciting place to be.
We have picked a traditional, rural base for this holiday: the village of Xaghra in the northeast of the island which is conveniently located to the ancient Ggantija Temples. Because as well as its natural heritage, Gozo’s cultural heritage and history have been informed by many influences over time, from the Romans and Byzantine Empires to North African Arabs and of course Europeans. You will learn about these various influences on language, cuisine and crafts during your week here.
Staying at a locally owned hotel, it is rustic and traditional in style and within easy walking distance of Xaghra village square, where café and restaurant life thrives. The hotel has a swimming pool and sunbathing terrace and you will have a choice of hotel rooms or a bungalow upgrade.
We also offer another hotel on this trip if you want to stretch your family budget a little. This is a spa hotel, also in Xaghra village at the highest point on the island with superb views. The price of this holiday includes all activities on the itinerary, transfers, accommodation, breakfasts, four lunches and dinners*, equipment and expert guides.
Please note that for safety reasons, those aged 8 and 9 will be offered the chance to try a bubble maker session. They can experience a shallow dive in pool-like conditions and the second dive up to 2m in a very calm area. Parents can join their children on this dive as long as they stick to 2m depth. Those under the age of 8 years old will have the opportunity to snorkel on the surface of the water and view the same vibrant marine life as the other members of the group. For children 8 years and over participation in any dive will be at the guide's discretion.
Please note: Any guests over 18 years old will need to pay an additional local Eco Tax of €0.50 per person per night (not exceeding the threshold of €5.00 per person).

All of it was fantastic. Could not have been better. The holiday provides a great combination of activities and is so well organised. Read full reviewReviewed on 15 Aug 2017 by Diana Lloyd
So many highlights! Our youngest loved the rock climbing, which was expertly supervised and our eldest loved the snorkelling and lazy boat day best. As for us, it's hard to choose, the Eco Day was much more than we anticipated and we really felt privileged to share their Gozo culture.... Read full reviewResponsible Travel
Planet and people
The island of Gozo is just 9 by 4 miles in size meaning that all the activities for this holiday are close together keeping motorized journey times to a minimum, any transfers are group transfers. On such a small island tourism plays an important social and economic role. With limited work opportunities, many young Gozitans are forced to leave the island they love and move to Malta in search of work opportunities. The development of tourism is helping to stem this flow.
The hotel we use has been deliberately chosen as it is Gozitan owned and has an entirely Gozitan staff. The hotel also actively promotes Gozitan heritage as the central part of the hotel is a 350+ year old farmhouse which has been sensitively converted to keep its character whilst the restaurant menu actively promotes locally sourced foods and traditional dishes. This ensures that the economic benefits remain on the island and are spread beyond the hotel’s walls. The hotel is situated on the edge of Xaghra village, within walking distance to the main square where you can support a variety of locally owned restaurants and small shops. It is also the perfect place to interact with the friendly locals as it is very much a traditional village and not a tourist resort.
Our activity providers are truly passionate about their island. They wish to ensure, as do we, that the future of this pristine environment and the local heritage is preserved for generations. This is imparted to our guests throughout the week as clients are given a greater understanding of the heritage and culture, and what must be done to preserve it, in an active way. There is a strict leave no trace policy on all activities and clients will also visit some agri tourism projects throughout their stay.
