There are hundreds of balloons here, all designs and colours, spread out across the desert landscape as far as the eye can see. Expect to pay around GBP£200-£250 with a reputable operator, though in the low season (November to March) you can sometimes get lower prices. But when booking a hot air balloon ride, your focus should always be on the quality of the flight operator, rather than securing the lowest possible price. And remember that it’s an incredible experience you’ll remember for many years, so if you are going to Cappadocia it’s definitely worth the expense.
How many people are in the basket?
Basket capacity varies widely, and they get pretty big. You could be with as many as 30 people, or if you’re prepared to pay more, far fewer. The baskets are separated into several compartments so you’ll have about four or five people in each, and it will be roomy enough that you can move around without too much difficulty.

Cappadocia hot air balloon flights operate all year-round, and the balloons usually go up 280-300 days a year.
Weather patterns are monitored closely to ensure it’s safe to fly, with wind typically the most important factor. If your flight has to be cancelled then you will be offered either a refund or a rescheduling, so you’re best off booking a flight early in your stay rather than late.

How long does a Cappadocia hot air balloon flight last?
A typical flight lasts 45-60 minutes, and the overall experience, which often includes a champagne toast on landing, lasts around three hours or so. You should be back at your hotel in time for your regular breakfast, so if you opt for this activity you won’t miss out on anything else.
Longer flights are available, should you prefer, and these will usually have fewer people in the basket too. You can also book private flights if you’re wanting to celebrate a special occasion, or you don’t like to share.

What should I wear for a hot air balloon flight?
You should wear warm clothing such as jeans and a jacket for a hot air balloon flight, even in summer. The aim is to be in the air for sunrise, so you will be picked up from your accommodation around 4am. The basket is exposed to the elements, so in winter a hat and gloves are also recommended. But don’t wear anything too bulky that will make it hard for you to clamber in and out of the basket.
Are there accessible hot air balloons in Cappadocia?
There is a limited number of accessible hot air balloons in Cappadocia. They have a gate in the basket to allow wheelchairs in, and special straps to hold it in place. They also have windows in the basket for wheelchair users to enjoy the views. If this is something you require, you should let your tour operator know as early as possible to ensure it can be booked.

Nothing is ever completely risk-free of course, but statistically you’re more likely to die from a lightning strike than you are from a hot air balloon crash.
