Coasts & islands
We can take you to a diverse range of coastlines – sometimes, all on the same trip. Sandy beaches combine with dramatic cliffs and record-breaking waves on Portugal’s Atlantic Coast. Meanwhile, Sweden’s forested islands and lakes are in reach of seaside cities like Stockholm. Most of our coastal walking holidays explore Europe, but there’s also Japan, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Caribbean islands like Bermuda to consider if you’re after more far-flung shores.
Famous coastal routes
There’s a good reason why most people go for the big-name walks – they’re spectacular. Many of our walking holidays counter the dangers of overtourism by offering departures in less busy times, such as in the wildflower highs of early summer or in the golden glow of autumn. They show you the Amalfi Coast’s shepherd trails as well as the Path of the Gods, point out tucked-away treasures along the Lycian Way, and look beyond the levadas of Madeira, so you get a 360-degree view of the region you’re rambling through.
… & the lesser-trod trails
Some of our coastal walks are truly underrated, such as Japan’s Michinoku Trail, which was designed to help boost a region devastated by the 2011 East Asia Tsunami. Other places, like Croatia, fly under the radar because they’re seen as cruise rather than hiking destinations. Our hikers, however, can take their time meandering between Dubrovnik and Split, overnighting on tiny islands and picnicking amongst lavender fields and salt-spritzed vineyards.
Small group vs. tailor made
Our small group tours are great for solo strollers who appreciate great guides and great company. They’re headed up by an expert tour leader, depart on set dates, and include most meals, accommodation and some activities in the price. Tailor made trips are private walks, often self guided, and made for your budget, availability, fitness level and interests. They can include luggage transfers, as well as 24/7 support that supplements the detailed route notes and GPS.
