Our Sail & ski holidays & tours
Frost on the deck, ice on the lines – and a pair of skis stowed below. Sail along the dramatic coasts of Norway, with snowy slopes rising high above your mast. Then, venture ashore, walking up to the top – the boat is bobbing far below – and ski back down again. A combination that’s not for the faint hearted, but one that gives you serious bragging rights, our sail and ski holidays celebrate winter on the water and on the hills. No pistes, no lifts and not another soul in sight – until you moor up and visit a small fishing community for dinner.

Highlights of our Sail & ski holidays & tours
What do sail & ski holidays entail?
Our sail and ski holidays mean using a sailing vessel to reach some fantastic ski touring locations. These aren’t cookie-cutter trips. Expect to be guided by the weather – the wind, the snow conditions, and the abilities of the group – by keeping things flexible you could end up having a truly unique experience. Most ski holidays don’t feature much wildlife – but these ones do, thanks to sailing in the fjords, where you might see orcas and humpback whales. These trips are wild, but they’re also welcoming. After a day on the slopes and the water, there’s nothing cosier than heading below deck for a hot meal round the table with the crew and your fellow guests.
Where to go on a sail & ski holiday
Follow the fjords: Norway makes a fantastic destination for sail and ski – with its massive coastline and impressive hillsides that plunge straight into the water. You can enjoy serene sailing in fjords followed by energetic climbs and thrilling descents. The Lofoten Islands have dramatic mountains going straight into the sea. The Svalbard Archipelago, further north, is even icier, and you can climb snowy slopes with your skis or snowboard, ready to carve your way down, with all that winter wonderland illuminated around you by the midnight sun.
Practicalities of a sail & ski holiday
Whilst you don’t need to know how to sail, as the crew on board your boat will handle the lines, you do need to know how to ski to get the most out of this kind of trip. The type of skiing on offer is ski touring, which means using skis that allow you to tour uphill before skiing down. It requires a good degree of fitness, and lots of clothing layers that you can remove and add as you climb from sea level to altitudes of 1,000m and up. Our sail and ski holidays use local towns for provisioning, but you're encouraged to bring your own tried and tested equipment. .
