Safaris for solo travellers

Join one of our small group safaris as a solo traveller and you’ll feel like part of the pack in no time. Not only are our small group safaris led by fantastic local guides who can identify rhino poo at thirty paces and know every birdcall in the forest, but you’ll also meet like-minded nature aficionados in your group – someone to share in the wonder when you see your first herd of elephants, or that first savannah sunrise – and you’ll get plenty of down time if you want some time away from the group, too. Small group travel can make solo travel far more affordable, and travelling by minibus or overland van gets you to places that are difficult or expensive to reach under your own steam. What’s not to like?

You can absolutely book a tailor made safari for yourself if you are keen on travelling solo. Whilst tailor made trips give you that sought after alone time, note that you won’t usually be alone when travelling between parks and reserves, or when out on game drives – you’ll usually get a driver and a guide accompanying you. In the evenings at safari lodges you will generally find other guests are around for at least parts of the evening – great if you want to share stories and swap photographs – but you’ll always get your own tent or room to yourself, too.

We have fantastic small group safaris that you can join in Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe that have a participatory camping element. These are great for solo travellers, as you’ll get to know your group well as you all muck in with putting up tents. Elsewhere, look at South Africa for a wealth of private game reserves and the chance to go on bush walks with just a tiny, intimate group. If gorilla watching has always been on your bucket list, head to Uganda, and if you want to take the track less travelled, head to Zambia and Zimbabwe.
