I think it was being away together with our family somewhere exotic and adventurous and making memories but I was most taken by going to the elephant sanctuary and living in a solar powered beautiful lodge right in an elephant enclosure. Tips?
Skip Lopburi, not worth it and thus avoid the long drive to Shukothai. Spend more time in Chiang Mai, it is worth it and go all inclusive for the beach part!

Yes I did. We planned it so that we always stayed in locally run hotels (apart from BKK)

Trekking at the lodge in the hills of Northern Thailand (Chiang Rai province). The scenery was stunning, the Lodge vey comfortable, the trekking fun, food delicious and staff very friendly and informative. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for some adventure in Northern Thailand.

The elephant trekking in Chiang Mai. We were a bit apprehensive before we went having heard/read about how many of the elephants were treated before we left. However, the elephant appeared to be well cared for and it was an experience we will never forget (even if our thighs were quite sore afterwards).

I went to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Thailand, this was a fantastic project helping animals who had been mostly kept as pets. It’s hard to say what was the most memorable part of this holiday as there was so much variety and different experiences, it’s difficult to decide what was the best part of it.

Memorable parts?
Visiting Hellfire pass and the war graves cemetery near the river Kwai, very moving. Cycling round the ruins of ancient Sukhothai and chilling out in Chiang Mai.
Tips?
We caught the night sleeper train down from Chiang Mai to Ayutthaya, go 1st class if possible also the train passes through Ayutthaya station at 4:30am so we stayed on till Bangkok 1 hour 30 minutes down the line and got a train back north at a more respectable timeto check into the hotel.

I would definitely recommend this trip for someone who wants a short getaway.
The snorkelling was out of this world. The water is as clear as crystal and the fish are of every shape, size and colour that you can think of, so many of them that you don’t know which way to look.
Tips?
You cannot do it in less than 4 nights. The drive from Phuket to Kuruburi is 3 hours, so you arrive in the early evening and stay the night there, then 2 nights on Koh Surin, and on... (more)Sally Frohlich
