Description of Menorca walking holiday, Spain

Walkers who crave the coast will love this Menorca walking holiday, on the second largest island in the archipelago. It is also one of the most unspoilt and least populated islands, as you will discover hiking on some of the coastal and inland trails, either through the island’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserve or along one of its many pristine headlands and beaches. Menorca has more beaches than Mallorca and Ibiza combined, and this tailor- made itinerary certainly dips in and out of some of the most exquisite bays.

On this walking holiday you can also follow trails that take you back through Menorca’s fascinating history, because a little known fact about this Balearic beauty is that it has the greatest concentration of prehistoric sites anywhere in Western Europe. With a superb natural harbour at its capital city, Mahon, it has also been subjected to various invasions over the centuries, and consequently your walks will be dotted with historic sites such as castles, forts and watch towers. Indeed, many of them are linked by the Cami de Cavalls walking trail, first constructed for military purposes. Luckily today they are as peaceful and harmonious as you could possibly hope for, as walkers can access idyllic coves, beaches and turquoise waters.

You will be staying in an elegant 17th century Spanish finca, Morvedra Nou Hotel near Ciutadella in the south-west of the island. Family-run, and with exquisite gardens and a pool, the rooms are in the converted stables. With half-board accommodation, the chef prides himself on producing fine, Menorcan cuisine. This holiday includes a hire car and means that, depending on the itinerary, you can drive to trail heads and we can arrange transfers for you to get back to your car at the end of the walk, if necessary.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet and people

UK Office:
We are well aware of the impact tourism has at home and abroad, and we make every effort to balance the environmental impact of travelling with the immense benefits sustainable tourism can bring to destinations and the people who live there. So we start in the office: we turn off all electrical equipment every night; we use energy-efficient bulbs; we measure print and paper consumption, and re-cycle wherever possible; we print our brochures on paper from sustainable sources, and send them out in bio-degradable packaging.

Leaders & local suppliers:
Situated in the south of the island, Hotel Rural Binigaus Vell is a beautifully converted traditional farmhouse.

Group size:
Having no minimum number means that groups sizes can be small and therefore the trips have less impact on the environment.

Activity:
Walking has minimal impact on the environment as you provide most of the energy yourself and, when you’re strolling from village to village, you can enjoy a relationship with locals in a way motorists passing through never can. On foot, you get off the beaten track, and you’ll find that people treat you as a visitor rather than a tourist. Also, by walking independently, and not having to worry about keeping up with a group, you set the pace so you can soak up the sights, sounds and scents of your surrounds and really get under the skin of the place you’re visiting.

We proactively encourage walking clients to think about travelling responsibly too: packing light, saving water and buying locally.
