Travel guides
Boots, poles, 'n' maps - our comprehensive guide to the most enjoyable walking holidays in Spain.
Make the most of Spain's lesser-known beaches by staying at traditional, locally-owned accommodation on Menorca.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Carbon ReductionOur commitment is to offer low-impact holidays that positively contribute to the destinations and communities we explore. With most journeys taking place on foot, everyone involved - from our team to our guests - is encouraged to respect the fragile ecosystems around them and leave no trace. Rather than visiting mass-tourism resorts, this tour focuses on less-visited natural landscapes while supporting local restaurants, guides and small-scale accommodation.
Environment & Wildlife
Although the water in the Balearic Islands is safe to drink for our customers, we offer the opportunity to purchase a water filter bottle, at a discounted price, that combines three different technologies to remove over 99.9% of all microbiological contaminants in water. This prevents the need for single use plastic bottles.
Lunch can be purchased from local supermarkets and shops, and you are encouraged to bring a water bottle, Tupperware container and cutlery to avoid using plastic bags and plastic knives and forks. Equally, dinners can be enjoyed at local restaurants on two nights - as the hotel runs on a half board basis.
In line with our focus on “human powered transport”, this trip promotes walking. We try to leave as minimal an impact as possible, this includes sticking to the trails to avoid upsetting the delicate balance for plants and animals, as well as not feeding wildlife as they become reliant on tourists, plus maintaining a safe and respectful distance from wildlife. This is a Grade 4 walking holiday, meaning moderately paced walks of a full or half a day walk and is likely to include an element of sightseeing as well. Half day walking will include approximately 3 hours of walking, with full days including up to 5 hours.
People
Local EconomyGuests will be staying in two hotels during their time in Menorca; the stylish 4-star Seth Hotel Cuitadella in the historic town centre followed by Hotel Artiem Carlos, on the quiet outskirts of Mahon, Es Castell. Each of these hotels allow for ample opportunity to explore the surrounding area and its natural beauty - with various guided walks inland and along the coast.
We aim to work with suppliers who share our commitment to responsible travel where possible. It is important for us that we work with local companies to ensure they benefit from tourism, the main income on the island, and at the same time ensure our travellers benefit from local knowledge. Our hotel’s menus offer regional dishes, made with local products, benefiting local businesses and farmers.
In addition to being granted a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the island of Menorca has also been recognised as a TOP 100 sustainable destinations as it focuses on balancing tourism with protecting its natural environment and traditions. Many beaches are only reachable by foot to preserve coastlines, and focus is placed on local produce and traditional production methods.
Employment, Inclusivity & Diversity
Our walking tours are thoughtfully designed to immerse guests in local heritage and culture, building meaningful connections with the places and people we visit - including the employment of local tour guides. As a company we believe in workplace diversity and equal employment, with opportunities available to everybody regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or nationality.
We ensure that our staff are equipped with suitable footwear and clothing to cater for the environment in which they are working.
Menorca is considered an LGBTQ+ friendly destination, known for its relaxed and tolerant atmosphere.
