Description of Provence self guided cycling tour, Avignon to Cassis
This self guided cycling tour meanders through beautiful Provence, starting in Avignon and finishing at the quiet town of Cassis, flanked by gorgeous coastline and bright blue seas. Cycle through the Alpilles mountain range, then pedal on past sunshine yellow homes in Aix-en-Provence and through landscapes painted by Cezanne and Van Gogh, before arriving in unspoiled Cassis. Although some other towns on the Mediterranean coast grab more of the attention, we picked Cassis as the highlight of this tour because it’s still a working fishing port, and full of character. We love places that resist the advances of time, progress and frantic modern life!
This week long tour comes with a warning, though. Numerous cyclists and wannabe painters have come to this corner of Provence to explore and ended up leaving their day jobs, buying a wreck to renovate and starting a new life here. After pedalling here for a week, you may want to do the same!
There is a choice of two standards of hotels on this tailor made tour. Breakfast, luggage transfers and a briefing are included. Hybrid bikes are available to rent.

Reviews
1 Reviews of Provence self guided cycling tour, Avignon to Cassis
Reviewed on 19 Sep 2016 by Anne Morrice
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The scenery and the food.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
You do need to be semi fit!
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Local shops and cafes would have benefitted in the smaller, out of the way villages
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
4.5 stars. Only negative aspect was the hotel on the first and final night in Avignon, The Ibis, where the rooms were tiny, like being in a cabin and did make us worry about what was to follow! However, the other hotels were all fabulous but then we had to return to the Ibis for the final night which was a bit of an anticlimax!

Travelling by bike, you are no longer an observer — you are an active participant in the local environment and culture. We promise to use many quiet local roads for our routes. Travelling on small and quiet roads, this tour will allow you to experience part of the rural countryside and ride through famous and authentic villages that beautifully illustrate the multi-faceted Provençal character.
We promise a variety of locally produced and grown products will be accessible on our tours. During this trip you may get to experience the best of fine local produce by tasting traditional Provencal wines and dishes like Le Papeton d’aubergine or Tarte Chaude aux Abricots or by directly buying authentic Provencal food and produce, like the Cavaillon melon, Lavender, etc.
We recommend travel by train, a much more eco-friendly solution. To travel within Europe, we recommend taking trains over renting cars using or air transports. Trains are more energy-efficient and will minimize the CO2 emission per capita.
In cities, we recommend clients to use public transportation, or to walk or bike. City bike rentals are more and more widely available in big and medium-sized cities across Europe they are the best way to get around congested cities.
