Description of Athens tailor made holiday in Greece
Ah, Athens! The city that gave birth to democracy, science and art. This tour offers a unique experience of the city's contrasts, combining both the old and the modern face of Athens, with a mix of history and nightlife, museums and excellent restaurants, shops and traditional cuisine.
After the visit to the Parthenon and the modern Acropolis Museum, we can have some fun in the scenic port of Flisvos, full of yachts and cheerful bars. We'll visit Kerameikos, the ancient cemetery of Athens and one of the least visited, and most beautiful, archaeological sites, and the temple of Poseidon in Sounio, to the south of the city. Athens' Archaeological Museum is one of the most important in the world, where you can browse the ancient Greek art, pottery and statues.
We can also enjoy the seaside glamour of cosmopolitan Glyfada, Athens' coolest neighbourhood full of luxury boutiques and bars, as well as its beautiful beach. Visitors hosted by local Athenians will relish the unforgettable home cooked meals and enjoy meeting the owners, who can offer interesting insights into the local culture.
This is a tailor made tour and, as such, the following itinerary is just an example of how you can choose to spend your time in this enthralling city. You have the option to create your own custom built holiday, choosing from the selection of activities below and combining whichever and as many days as you would like, depending on how much time you spend in Athens.

PlanetTourism has the capacity to have a great impact on the whole planet and on the environment as well. Our goal is to make this impact as positive as possible!
Athens is a big city with a population of 3 million inhabitants and many foreign visitors every year. Unfortunately, the Athenians have learned to move mainly by private cars and less by public transport. This habit has created high atmospheric pollution in the city center.
Due to our sensitivity about the environmental problem, we decided to make all our tours in the city center by foot or by public transport and use a professional car only on long distances. Walking has minimal impact on the environment and when you are strolling inside Athens you can enjoy a relationship with the Athenians. On foot you will find that people treat you as a visitor rather than a tourist. Also by walking you can soak up the monuments, the sounds, the scents, the local habits. This also helps our guests to get to know better Athens and the real Athenian life.
On this tailor made tour, our groups have a minimum number, meaning that small groups inside Athens have less impact on the environment.
During this tailor made tour we follow the principles of "No Trace Travel". In Athens almost all places we pass through have recycling options and we encourage our guests to use them for specific items. We also suggest them to buy food with minimal packaging to reduce plastic waste and try to use tap water and refill their own bottle for free at retaurants and hotels, in an effort to avoid plastic water bottles of one-use. Besides, Athens has a good water supply system, so they can drink tap water safely.
PeopleIn Athens the accommodations we offer are mainly guesthouses run by locals and are mainly located in the southern suburbs, not far from the city center.
We chose this area, because we want our guests to enjoy unforgettable walks by the sea, when they have free time. In this way they will have the chance to enjoy modern Athens as well, and feel for a while like an Athenian.
We also recommend our visitors to enjoy at least one meal in Greek family taverns, located in authentic Athenian neighborhoods, tasting almost homemade meals and we encourage them to visit some Athenian workshops of Greek craftsmen, who love their work and create beautiful items, proposing to buy from there, instead of buying from big stores items, which are imported from foreign markets.
We like also to support the Athenian population and suggest to visitors to be hosted in their homes, as this is an enriching experience for them. By this way they will meet interesting people and experience the real Athenian life.
