Kenya and Tanzania family safari, small group
Highlights
Nairobi | Kisii | Great Rift Valley | Lake Victoria | Serengeti National Park | Ngorongoro Conservation area | Meserani | Mto wa Mbu craft market | black rhino, lion, leopard, elephant and hippo countryDescription of Kenya and Tanzania family safari, small group
This week-long family safari to Kenya and Tanzania serves up landscapes shaped by ancient volcanic forces, starting with the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria and finishing off with the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation area. All the parks offer a different flavour of East Africa. The Ngorongoro cradles over 30,000 animals in its giant volcanic crater. And the vertiginous Great Rift Valley staggers down to a river that reels in flocks of flamingos. Meanwhile, any grumbling about the early morning game drives at Serengeti National Park can be assuaged with the possibility of spotting a pride of lions – from a hot air balloon.
This is a small group safari, so you’ll be exploring Kenya and Tanzania with other families and an expert guide who’ll put you in touch with both the wildlife and communities that live in these wild vistas.

Our family group sizes are small enough to avoid the crowds and reach some out-of-the-way places, but big enough for a good social mix. Our average group size of 10 allows us to hop aboard local boats, buses or trains, eat at friendly, family-run restaurants and kick back in traditional accommodation and homestays.
We know the biggest challenge on a family trip is keeping the kids entertained. So we’ve planned in advance. Nearly all of our hotels feature pools, and each day has a great mix of action-packed adventure and flexible free time. Your local leader can also suggest activities based on your kid’s hobbies or school curriculum.
Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Water is a really precious commodity in this part of the world. Our trained tour leaders are well versed in advising travellers on initiatives laid out to help manage water consumption and actively encourage them to treat this scarce resource with the utmost respect.
Unfortunately, on the vast majority of this itinerary, using public transport is not reliable or feasible and so we use private, locally-owned transport instead. However, we do ensure that our vehicles are well-maintained, fuel efficient and appropriately sized for the passenger numbers we have travelling with us.
As a company we aim to contribute to the environmental preservation of the destinations we visit and to reduce any negative impacts our operations may have. This translates to actions such as using local transport where safe to do so in order to reduce emissions, observing all national and marine park visitor rules and operating a ‘take in, take back out’ waste management system, to name but a few examples. Through our inhouse foundation we also invest money into environmental initiatives that benefit the planet, including restoring kelp forests to help reverse the effects of global warming and protecting endangered species such as sea turtles and elephants.
The Impacts of this Trip
This trip is run by our own East African operator who shares our commitment to responsible travel, from waste and water management to ensuring we leave as minimal a footprint as possible. Crucially, our local team are all trained in our global responsible travel policies and practises.
We encourage our suppliers to adopt more sustainable practises too and often select suppliers who already have green practises in place. We also shop in local markets and eat in local restaurants to support the local economy. All aspects of this trip on the ground are operated by Eastern Africans, most of whom live locally, including all our tour leaders, vehicle drivers, local sight guides and accommodation providers.
This family trip has a maximum group size of 16 to minimise our impact on the places we visit. Over tourism is an issue we are very conscious of and we are taking measures to ensure that we don’t disrupt the communities we visit or their surrounding environments.
Our company strives to create employment opportunities in the countries we travel to and our staff is made up of many different people from all over the world. We offer local people good working conditions, a fair wage, and empower them through training opportunities. We also work to maximise the benefits generated by tourism for local economies and communities. We source local activities that we believe are sustainable to the economy in that they allow the flow of income from visitors to be distributed to a greater audience, instead of remaining concentrated with a handful of tourism providers.
