As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION
1. The lodges on this trip use both solar energy and hydro power depending on the weather and availability.
2. The lodges provide vegetarian and vegan food options for the clients. There is a variety to choose from with Chefs often come up with unique menus for Vegeterians and Vegans.
3. The lodges use local food sourced from the community except for foods that are not available in the local communities. They purchase foods from the local farmers - potatoes, bananas, fruits and vegetables.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
1. We have expert nature guides on this safari. While on gorilla, chimpanzee and golden monkey trek experiences, you will interface with the ranger guides who are very knowledgeable and passionate.
2. The clients will visit national parks that are managed by Uganda Wildlife Authority. The money paid in park fees is used for conservation efforts of the park among other things. It is used to pay rangers, 20% of gate collections is given to surrounding communities.
3. We are members of Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF). UCF supports the Uganda Wildlife Authority to recover and manage protected areas, and reducing poaching and wildlife crime. They support wildlife populations through investing in key infrastructure, as ranger posts, marine ranger stations and veterinary labs. They believe that when ranger patrols and veterinary teams access hard-to-reach areas and treat wounded animals, wildlife populations stand the best chance of growth.

LOCAL ECONOMY
1. The clients will stay in 3 lodges on the trip. One is owned by a local and the rest are owned by foreign residents.
2. The tour guides on this tour are Ugandans, including the ranger guides in the national parks and community guides.
3. The lodges employ locals and provide competitive wages. They also give opportunity to do village walks around the community which is a source of income for the community.
4. For all the trekking experiences, clients are encouraged to take 'porters' as a way to support the community.
5. We are members of Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF). UCF works with park-adjacent communities to promote wildlife-compatible livelihoods and mitigate human-wildlife conflict. Engaging communities, schools and cultural institutions is key to building a sustainable legacy for conservation.
