Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
On this group tour of Vietnam we have been very careful to create a tour that is as carbon neutral as possible. Our locally led tour uses local train and boat services wherever possible. These are not the ‘tourist’ trains but the scheduled services. Vietnam's air-conditioned trains are one of the best ways for travellers to get around Vietnam. You will also have a great opportunity to meet the Vietnamese people. Inexperienced travellers sometimes think they'll save time using internal flights, but in some cases the overnight train ride from Hanoi to Hué or Danang can actually save you time over flying. We think that it is fair to say that travelling by train is a genuine Vietnamese experience, and we feel is an integral part of your trip. Our team in Vietnam actively identify sources of single-use plastics and carbon output and work to remove them along the entire traveller's journey.
People
From this tour of Vietnam, at least 5% of revenue is committed to local projects in reforestation, removal of single use plastics and alternative education. Our local team in Vietnam are also dedicated to providing opportunities for the disadvantaged and the vulnerable through their employment practices. All of the guides used on this tour will be local and fully trained by our Vietnam based team.In Halong Bay we use the services of Oriental Sails, a locally owned and operated business that has been at the forefront of sustainable tourism in the area. They are actively campaigning for the reduction of single use plastics and leading on community involvement in this process.
Wherever possible, we generate income for people living in the areas that we visit by using local materials, transport, food and guides and paying directly to the individuals concerned rather than intermediaries. Entrance fees at numerous sites go towards maintenance of historic sites as well as contributing towards salaries and local employment opportunities.
