Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION
By choosing to walk between inns instead of using cars or other forms of motorized transport, you significantly reduce your carbon footprint. Walking is the most environmentally friendly way to travel, minimizing emissions and preserving the pristine natural beauty of the region.

Our itineraries are thoughtfully crafted and 100% digital, accessible offline via app. This ensures smooth navigation without paper waste. Along the way, enjoy zero-kilometer meals, featuring fresh, seasonal, and organic ingredients sourced from local farmers and markets. This approach reduces food miles, supports the local economy, and provides authentic flavors of the region.

To further minimize environmental impact, we encourage travelers to use eco-friendly train routes to reach the nearest destination in Alto Minho. This not only reduces reliance on long-distance car transfers but also aligns with our mission to protect the pristine beauty of Portugal.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Our guided tour of the National Park emphasizes the importance of conservation, offering you the chance to learn about local ecosystems, wildlife, and plant species while fostering a deeper appreciation for nature. This knowledge encourages sustainable practices that contribute to the protection of the park for future generations. We are directly involved in local conservation projects, actively participating in awareness-raising activities such as the iAMnature festival, beach clean-ups, and invasive species removal.
For every trip, we donate €5 per person to support local association in Peneda-Gerκs National Park.

LOCAL ECONOMY:
During your holiday you will be staying in a selection of small local or family run establishments. Most of these are old rural houses that have been renovated and given a new lease of life. There's always a little welcome treat of local products such as jams, cheeses, wines or honey!

This holiday includes a visit to a locally owned winery that produced organic wines

We encourage you to eat in friendly local restaurants where you can try traditional regional dishes and taste local wines.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
This holiday includes visit with local guide, for who we provide fair payment above the minimum wage and professional training opportunities. On this day, a delicious picnic of fresh, local produce will be prepared for you.

This is a non-tourist, non-mass holiday where contact with the local community is constant and natural. On the daily itineraries we include information about local artisans, local shops and markets.

This trip is prepared to welcome people with limited vision or hearing, our staff and guides are trained and we have interpretive materials to make your trip even more special!

Choosing our holidays is more than just an escape into nature, it's a commitment to responsible travel. Together we can enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Portugal while making a positive impact on the environment and the local community.
