CARBON REDUCTION
It is possible to reach Stockholm by train but most guests opt to fly there. We actively encourage guests to take the sleeper train from Stockholm to Boden in Lapland, rather than a domestic flight once they arrive in Sweden which also means they have an extra half day on retreat. Once our guests reach our destination transfers and travel to our excursions are provided in EV's.
We provide a conscious packing list for our guests.
Vegetarian and vegan food is available - although we also offer sustainably sourced local meat. Our kitchen operates a zero waste policy and has a robust recycling scheme in place.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Sustainability and ecological values are two pillars of the Treehotel. The treehouses are built using materials and construction techniques that make as little environmental impact as possible. They are built on live trees without destroying the tree, no other trees are chopped down and there is no other damage to nature. The treehouses are built with an eco-outdoor wood which doesn’t contain any chemical substances.

The treerooms all have good insulation and are warmed up by underfloor heating. The electricity is supplied locally from green hydroelectric power. And the lighting consists of low-energy LED-systems. Daily operations have minimal impact on nature as well. The treerooms have no sewage system and when cleaning, we always use eco-friendly products.

Each room has a modern, environmentally friendly combustion toilet where everything is incinerated at 600 °C. The toilets are completely odourless and powered by electricity. Bathrooms have water-efficient sinks with running water sufficient for washing hands, face and brushing teeth. All wastewater is collected in a container that is emptied daily. Showers are located in a separate building.

We do offer husky sledding on this retreat with a carefully selected local supplier - it is a family run business with around 40 dogs who are very much loved and well cared for. We also offer a horse sleigh ride with a local man who has a small farm with eight horses who live a very happy life.

LOCAL ECONOMY
Our Sweden retreat takes place at a locally owned and run small hotel. We are committed to supporting the local economy—all the suppliers that we work with are based in the area, including Sami reindeer herders The Treehotel take great care in selecting and supporting local businesses around them.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
Around 90% of the people involved in delivering this retreat are Icelandic. All local staff are employed on fair wages with benefits. We bring a small team from abroad—our yoga teacher and retreat host—but the majority of roles are local. This trip is LGBTQ+ friendly and led with inclusivity in mind. While the retreat is not suitable for guests with significant mobility challenges, we are committed to growing our accessibility strategy. We have been a certified B Corp since 2023.
