Travel guides

Indonesia
Our Indonesia travel guide aims to point responsible travellers in the right direction when it comes to what we rate & what we don’t.
Unusual
This unusual holidays guide steers clear of trends as it leads you on the path to eclectic adventures.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION:
We’re dedicated to responsible travel, and a key part of that commitment is our pioneering carbon scoring system – the first of its kind. This innovative tool measures the environmental impact of every tailor-made trip we create. By working closely with our suppliers through a detailed carbon-scoring survey, we gain clear insights into what’s working well and where we can make improvements.

ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE:
Sustainability runs through everything at Seed Resort. Plastic use is kept to a minimum at the resort, and solar power provides much of the resort’s energy, including the saltwater infinity pool. Outside, the organic waste is composted and re-used as fertilize to feed the gardens.

The accommodation is crafted from recycled wood, made in the traditional teak bungalow style, and includes the use of hot water powered by solar. They are also outfitted with high-efficiency appliances and lighting to minimize energy consumption.

Everything you will eat at Seed Resort is sourced locally on the island. The on-site coconut grove and thriving herb and vegetable garden ensures that locally-grown fresh produce supports the restaurants and kitchens in the resort, meaning a thriving farm-to-table ethos. Produce is tended to without the use of toxic chemicals, and natural treatments and remedies are used such as Neem oil, meaning you can enjoy the taste of truly organic flavours.

There is a healthy mangrove forest ecosystem on the island, and organic produce such as meat and fish comes straight from local farmers and fishermen.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY:
By taking part in activities such as the Local Village Tour, we are connecting with and showing appreciation for Rote’s culture. This includes a trip to the interesting local market, and the opportunity to witness the creation of traditional sugar syrup. We can also contribute to the local economy by visiting people’s homes and getting a glimpse of island life on Rote. By supporting local agricultural industries and eating the abundance of fresh produce grown and harvested on the island, we are also positively contributing to this aspect of the local economy.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY, AND DIVERSITY:
Income is supported for local people on the island through a host of employment opportunities created by Seed Resort; this includes but is not limited to; working as part of the team running the boat trips and charters, yoga and spa/wellness, yoga instructors, kayaking and snorkelling group guides, plus bar and restaurant staff employment.
