Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION
We are committed to offering low-impact holidays, which benefit the countries and communities we visit, as well as our travellers and the natural environment. We believe in the transformative power of travel and aim to minimise our ecological footprint by selecting eco-friendly accommodations, encouraging waste reduction, and supporting sustainable transportation options where possible.

This walking tour in the Bernese Oberland is designed with a strong focus on low-impact travel and environmental awareness. Based in the car-free village of Wengen, the itinerary naturally limits vehicle use, helping to reduce carbon emissions while preserving the clean Alpine environment.

Travel throughout the region relies on an extensive network of trains, funiculars, and cable cars, including access via the Jungfraubahn, offering a lower-carbon alternative to road transport. Walks begin directly from these transport links, minimising additional travel and encouraging a slower, more sustainable way to explore.

Hotel Bellevue Wengen benefits from its environmentally friendly location, where transport is largely limited to trains and electric vehicles, helping to reduce overall emissions and preserve the Alpine setting. Meanwhile, Hotel Regina demonstrates a clear commitment to sustainability through its focus on local sourcing and active measures to reduce energy, water use, and waste, while also offering vegetarian dishes and some vegan options within its restaurant menus.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
We operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy in national parks, archaeological sites, monuments, and other sensitive areas like beaches and coastlines; these should be treated with the ultimate respect to maintain them for future generations. Our tour leaders are trained to promote this message to our customers during the holiday.

You'll be walking routes through areas such as Schynige Platte and the Lauterbrunnen Valley, which highlight protected Alpine landscapes and where careful tourism helps support conservation and maintain biodiversity. Exploring meadows rich in native Alpine flowers, which are surrounded by peaks like Jungfrau, encourages a greater appreciation of fragile mountain ecosystems and reinforces the value of preserving these environments for the future.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY
We provide ample opportunities to explore the local area on foot, where you can shop for local wares and crafts and immerse yourselves in the destination's rich cultural heritage. To enhance your experience, your tour leader will be joined by a knowledgeable, well-qualified local guide for the duration of the trip.

This tour supports the local economy by relying on regional infrastructure, where you can use the excellent Jungfraubahn Pass for locally operated mountain transport, ensuring revenue stays within the area. Staying in car-free villages such as Wengen and visiting Mürren also helps sustain small businesses, from family-run hotels to independent cafés and services that depend on responsible tourism.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY & DIVERSITY
We are committed to responsible and sustainable travel practices that support both the local environment and surrounding communities. By selecting environmentally conscious accommodation, encouraging reduced waste, and prioritising sustainable transport where possible, we aim to minimise our footprint. Through respectful engagement and conscious travel choices, we strive to protect natural landscapes while delivering enriching and memorable experiences.
