Travelling in Georgia with kids

While not suited to a holiday with toddlers, Georgia’s wild landscapes, history and outdoor activities are perfect for adventurous older kids.![]()

There may not be a kids’ club in sight, but Georgia can still be on your list when it comes to family holidays. Active older children and teenagers will love it here and can get stuck into all the high adrenalin fun, such as biking, horse riding and rafting. Plus, there are all those ancient monuments and the magical cave town of Vardzia for junior history buffs. Kids will be well served food wise, too, and are unlikely to complain about all those cheese stuffed breads and grilled meats. Since much of Georgia’s allure lies in getting out of town and into the remote areas, with plenty of physical activity involved, it’s not the ideal holiday destination for toddlers or young children.

Activities for families in Georgia
Full of gorgeous natural landscapes, Georgia has plenty to offer for active families with older children, from horse riding and mountain biking trails through the Caucasus mountains, to wildlife spotting in national parks, and even white water rafting. And then there’s Georgia’s coastline for a little post activity R’n’R.
Jonny Bealby, from our supplier Wild Frontiers, shares his top tip for travelling to Georgia with kids:
“Head up to the Caucasus mountains where there are any number of activities families could enjoy from simple hiking and picnicking to rafting, mountain biking and horse riding. You could even enjoy a few days on the beach on the Black Sea coast.”

Mark Huggins, from our supplier Undiscovered Destinations:
“I would say Georgia is a great destination for intrepid families. There are nice accommodation options throughout Georgia. The food is good and plentiful. The hospitality is warm. Some roads in the mountains are poor, though, so families need to be prepared for some tough travelling. Families with kids that love the great outdoors and are used to walking and exploring exciting historical sites like forts, castles and monasteries will enjoy Georgia.”
