So many memorable moments. Capetown, the township tour, the teabag factory, the whales, the safari, the garden route and the caves.

Stay in a hotel half way between the city centre of greenmarket square and the near the waterfront

Yes we were made aware of a water shortage in western cape and in capetown.

It was excellent. The accommodation was superb. There was an enormous number of things to do and see at each stop-over. Everyone was helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and authentic. And most of all, the natural surroundings were beautiful beyond belief.

Everything! Hard to choose! The vast number of endemic plants, unbelievable diversity of flora, diversity of birds, both the endemic and the widespread, the Southern Right Whales, the seals, the Mountain Cape Zebra, the Meerkat and the Black Wildebeest. That being said about wildlife, the South African people were incredibly warm, co-operative and knowledgeable. They love their beautiful country and are perfect hosts to their visitors. Memorable parts?
The day we spotted some African wild dogs trying to protect their kill from 2 hyena. We were observing this from the opposite bank of a river and could see exactly what was going on whilst the wild dog pack could not. It was amazing to see and hear the commotion and see the dogs defend their kill. A short time later we came across 2 lionesses who had also heard the noise and were on a mission to find the kill too. Without doubt the safari we went on to the Addo & Scotia parks but spending time playing with Serval Cats whilst volunteering at the African Dawn Wildlife Project was a close second.
Tips?
If you are volunteering - you might be a bit overwhelmed when you first arrive - give it a couple of days and you will love it.
