Description of Montenegro activity holiday, adrenaline adventure

This Montenegro activity is an amazing adrenaline adventure, and this particular itinerary is brand new for 2018. Many of our guests wish to try more challenging activities, so we've made this fantastic adrenaline holiday. Our camp is located in Zabljak in Durmitor National Park, a tranquil setting with beautiful mountain views and the forest of Durmitor only meters away. Our goal is for all of our guests to have a great Adrenaline holiday whilst also enjoying the amazing scenery in the beautiful National Park of Durmitor.

Zabljak offers many great restaurants, cafes and bars. Our camp has four lovely self catering apartments and is spread over a large outdoor garden space. There is a total of six double bedrooms and six bathrooms and we can comfortably accommodate large groups. There is WiFi internet and satellite TV in each apartment, games room and barbecue facilities. All transfers and mountain bikes are included in the holiday price, all the lunches during activity days, and six exciting days of adventure activities, all adding up to an exhilarating mountain experience!

This new adrenaline adventure is for sporty people who want to enjoy a huge variety of activities that are challenging. Enjoy a two lake trekking activity, where we set off from camp by foot, through the Durmitor forest to Black Lake and Snake Lake, with wild swimming. Go white water rafting, which is particularly exciting in May when the river is high, trying the adrenaline zip line, too, which is over 200m high. There is also our fantastic 'Ring of Durmitor' jeep safari, following a loop across the mountains of Durmitor, with amazing landscapes. The fourth activity is a day of mountain biking, a great way to see surrounding villages and lakes. In the summer it would include wild swimming and taking the ski lift to the top of Savin Kuk mountain (2,315m). There is a mountaineering trek day to the peak of Bobatov Kuk, at a height of 2,535m and the sixth activity is canyoning in the Canyon Nevidio. This is an action packed day, with jumps and passages through the canyon. In low season, a quad biking activity is possible if weather conditions don’t permit canyoning. This quad biking day is an action packed 4x4 off road journey that takes guests on a wild tour through the Montenegrin wilderness. Hearty lunches are included on all these days.

Hello. If you'd like to chat about this holiday or need help finding one we're very happy to help. Rosy & team.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Montenegro activity holiday, adrenaline adventure

Environment

We have been living by the coast in Montenegro for over 10 years. We are lovers of nature and along with the stunning Montenegrin coastline we also very much enjoy the mountains of Montenegro and especially the UNESCO National park of Durmitor. We absolutely love and appreciate our camp which is surrounded by its perfect nature and it's scenic setting, and for guests to enjoy both adventures and relaxing. Along with pristine nature there is an abundance of great adventure activities on offer for all guests to take part in and we hope all our guests will have a relaxing and fun filled active holiday stay with us.

Nearly all of our activities have the concept of Eco tourism and mostly all of our activities are deemed as not harmful to the environment. Indeed the Durmitor National Park is a UNESCO protected national park and considered an 'Air' spa for visitors.

We provide all our guests with a friendly welcome BBQ meal and drink on arrival of stay. We also provide packed lunches and we buy all our produce directly from the market place, from local farmers in the area, such as locally produced jams, preserves, fruit berries, meats and cheeses. We also have a cultural day out where our guests shall have a traditional Montenegrin meal which again has all foods and drinks that are locally produced such as meats, wines and plum brandy, etc.

Our camp is surrounded by green fields, mountains and forests and we shall be discarding wherever possible all rubbish for recycling. We shall also have our outdoor lights run on solar energy and energy saving bulbs. We also offer our guests free usage of mountain bikes which we shall encourage our guests to use, so they can travel around the area by Eco transport.

Our team leaders are all local to the area and we hope to show our guests the benefits of protecting our environment on our activities. Our Hiking team leaders are also part of the conservation of the Durmitor forest and they will be explaining all aspects of nature to our guests on activities.

Community

We directly aim to create jobs and employ and empower local people in that region, which are heavily dependent on incomes from tourism in this region. Locals in the Durmitor region generally live from tourism or farming and so it's a massive chunk of their income to be involved within the sector of tourism.

We employ 6 team leaders and also have a staff for the day to day running of our camp. We are hoping that we shall be able to make a difference in the community by employing locals and they shall have a direct benefit of being employed and gaining an income from our weekly package stays.

We shall encourage all of our staying guests to explore Durmitor for themselves on free days and evening times, and hope they'll visit local restaurants, cafes and eateries in the town of Zabljak which will economically help other local business's.

This is our first season in 2016 and we shall hopefully be a success this year and we shall endeavor to include as much possible for local people to be employed and for income to be spent back into the camp and to stay with the community.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The most exciting part of our travel was the canyoning! The walk is 1.5 km and there are jumps up to 10 metres high. Local guides (who are also search rescuers) help you with the canyoning and also make pictures. All equipment are provided. Really outstanding experience.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Just go for it and be prepared for a lot of physical activity. Also bring different kind of clothes because the weather and temperature changes quickly on the mountains.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes because the activities were all organised by locals. We ate food from the local area and on the last night we were taken to a national restaurant for dinner.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

We stayed for 5 nights and did activities everyday except the day of arrival. We did our activities in the day and usually had the rest of the day (4pm onwards) to ourselves. The places we went to were beautiful and you will find a wide variety of sceneries all located very close to each other. We'd recommend it to families, couples and groups of friends looking for a unique holiday full of adventure and fun. Stan (our host) was very accommodating and picked us up/dropped us off from the airport. He can provide suggestions for activities according to your preferences.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Outstanding. We made some great family memories here. The Durmitor region is stunning and totally unspoiled. The camp is perfectly located, but what was most impressive was the hospitality provided by Stan and Goca - genuinely lovely people who go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. The range of activities is great and there are plenty of other options to choose from. It was a full-on few days but Goca's amazing cooking kept us well fuelled! We'll be back!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We've just returned from a one week family holiday in Zabljak. Stan and Gorska were fantastic hosts and the other two families staying there were great company. The accommodation is comfortable, homely and spacious. There was a great range of well-planned activities, all pretty close to our camp - hiking, white water rafting, swimming, 850m zip line across the Tara valley, biking, canyoning and horse riding. We would love to have tried the paragliding too but ran out of time! Great local food and good atmosphere in the nearby town. Being up in the mountains it was warm but not too hot (cooler in the evenings) which was ideal as the activities are quite strenuous.

Stan is a fantastic camp director! We cannot recommend this experience highly enough. Stan went out of his way to provide us with challenging and exciting activities each day in Durmitor National Park with skilled local guides. We arrived a day late due to an airline delay so Stan included our missed activities on the last day of our stay. Instead of leaving in the morning, we spent time on another mountain peak, ate a delicious traditional meal and departed late in the day. Stan also re-arranged the activities based on the current mountain weather, saving our hike up Bobatov Kuk for a beautiful sunny day so we would have the best views.

Stan is warm and personable and very committed to providing a memorable experience. He also went above and beyond to schedule sailing and sightseeing for us at the beach after our official 6 days was over in the National Park.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The canyoning was the best! Mickey was a great tour leader and it was an adventure that I had not had before. Be brave and go for it on the jumps!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, by using local tour guides, I know that we were feeding the local economy. I would suggest providing guests with large jugs of water instead and asking
guests to bring refillable water bottles so as not to use so many small water bottles for daily lunch trips.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Great! It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. It was a week of being in nature, which is what I had hoped for, but also provided mornings and
evenings to relax and read a book.
