Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Transport:
Much of the transport with the countries is carried out using public transport, an effective way to help lower your carbon footprint, mingle with the locals and soak up the scenic views as you make your way to the next location. A lot of our activities are based on walking from place to place. These walking trips will provide you with light exercise - looking after your well being, while also reducing the carbon footprint on the planet - looking after the planet’s well being!

Accommodation:
We choose locally run accommodation and are booked with local suppliers to meet our goals of giving back to the locals. Here you have the opportunity to learn about their way of life and indulge in the local cuisines. All of the places we stay in are passionate about doing their part when it comes to the environment. The Phuket Beach Resort stands out for its comprehensive and well-documented eco-friendly initiatives - they have installed rooftop solar panels, recycle at least 80% of all waste, utilise rain water to improve the island's water conservation, run beach cleaning activities regularly and offer biodegradable products in the rooms.

On this tour, we stay in hotels, guesthouses & homestay, a great way to immerse yourself in the local tradition. What better way to experience a traditional Thai home then by staying in the beautiful countryside homestay in Chiang Mai. Whilst you’re staying in each of these places, we encourage you to use local services on offer, this way your money goes straight into the local community and economy. Check out the Local Restaurants or Street Food Vendors rather than visiting chains.

Wildlife:
Whilst we visit the Ethical Elephant Sanctuary, our travellers will have a proximity of 10-15 metres from the Elephants in order to closely follow a more natural environment for the animals and without exploitation for tourism. Whilst visiting the waterfalls in Chiang Mai & Kanchanaburi, we encourage travellers to follow waste disposal rules – carry out any trash, and use eco-friendly products to avoid pollution, such as the use of biodegradable sunscreen when bathing in the falls. Angkor Wat is an iconic UNESCO World Heritage Centre and it is important to take care when visiting - stay on the designated paths and do not climb or touch ancient ruins.

Top Tips:
We do not encourage our travellers to drink tap water in Thailand & Cambodia, however we still suggest packing a reusable water bottle in case there are safe refill stations so that we can still try to minimise the trail of plastic left behind.

We also recommend packing as light as possible, to help keep your carbon footprint low.

People

Local tour guides:
You’ll have a different guide for each destination you visit, with each one being a specialist in their hometown. By using local tour guides we help support the local people and provide employment opportunities. Your guides provide in-depth knowledge of their hometowns, offering travellers authentic insights into local customs and hidden gems.

Whilst in Chiang Mai, learn from the locals all about the Elephants and follow a painting workshop. Local drivers and boat crew will take you for an adventure to both Erawan Waterfalls on the River Kwai and Pileh Lagoon & the sands of Maya Beach. Spend the evening at the Phare Circus, an acrobatics show built around a social organization that provides free education and arts training to over 1200 Cambodian children.

Local experiences:
Majority of the activities in our tour is designed to give an insight into the life of the people of Thailand & Cambodia. We include experiences that allow our travellers to soak up the language, culture and history of different cities and small villages. All of our customers’ interactions are with local suppliers, and we promote integration between travellers and local people through our “unmissable” included activities and our optional activities, and opportunities for authentic cultural immersion.

Immerse yourself in the history and culture of Bangkok, learning about the iconic temples. Take a trip to the floating markets and learn about this alternative shopping experience. Understand the importance of the Elephant Sanctuaries and the work they do to protect these wonderful creatures.

Our Adventure Leaders are trained in ensuring that customers are aware of local customs and traditions, educating them on when it is appropriate to take photos and/or videos.
