CARBON REDUCTION

Most guests reach Andros via an international flight to Athens, followed by a ferry crossing and onward road transfer. While flying is usually unavoidable, once on the island all transfers are shared. Providing group transfers in Andros is part of our commitment to reducing the number of individual car journeys during the retreat.

Meals are largely vegetarian, with some locally sourced fish. Much of the produce comes directly from the retreat’s small on-site farm, where salads and vegetables are grown, with additional ingredients sourced from local suppliers on the island. The kitchen operates a waste-free policy, with careful planning to minimise food waste.

Guests receive a conscious packing list ahead of departure to encourage mindful travel and reduce unnecessary consumption.

ENVIRONMENT AND LANDSCAPE

Our retreat takes place in a secluded valley close to the coast on Andros Island, an island known for its rich biodiversity, freshwater springs, and extensive network of ancient walking trails.

The accommodation has been built using natural, locally sourced materials, with a philosophy of minimal intervention in the surrounding landscape. Daily operations are designed to have as little environmental impact as possible, and the retreat continues to explore alternative energy solutions and ecological practices as part of its long-term vision.

Andros is the first island in Europe to be recognised by the European Ramblers Association, with over 300 km of restored historic trails crossing the island from north to south. Hiking on these established routes helps protect the wider landscape while allowing guests to explore the island on foot.

Activities on the retreat include hiking, swimming at a secluded beach, and two optional boat trips. A local fisherman takes guests out on his boat, offering a low-impact way to experience the coastline and marine environment. All activities are optional and approached with care and respect for the natural surroundings.

LOCAL ECONOMY

The retreat is hosted at a locally owned, family-run property. All services apart from the visiting yoga teacher and retreat host are provided by local people, including the kitchen team, drivers, boat operator, and support staff.

Food is prepared by a local Greek team using ingredients grown on-site or sourced from producers on Andros, ensuring that the majority of spending remains within the local economy. By working exclusively with island-based suppliers, we aim to support small businesses and traditional livelihoods.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

The majority of people involved in delivering this retreat are local to Andros and employed on fair terms. We bring a small visiting team in the form of the yoga teacher and retreat host, while all other roles are filled locally.

This retreat is led with inclusivity in mind and is open to all. While some activities such as hiking take place on uneven terrain, the retreat itself is suitable for a wide range of participants. We continue to review and improve our accessibility approach across all retreats.

We have been a certified B Corp since 2023, reflecting our wider commitment to responsible business practices, people, and the planet.
