Our tour leader will arrange group meals at local restaurants and at lodges where is it possible to try some of the tasty and healthy local food, as well as supporting the local economy. Often these will be made from locally sourced, fresh ingredients including plenty of local vegetables making it easy for vegetarians to find tasty and heathy alternatives to meat or fish dishes.
On this trip we will stay at a number of eco lodges run by the local communities including Haven Lodge in Bwindi and Rwakobo Lodge in Lake Mburo both sporting their own water sources as well as solar panels for water heating, and reminders for guests and staff to turn off lights and electrical systems. Guests are also encouraged to indicate if they want daily towel changes, helping to minimize the energy used by the laundry service.
As a travel company we are acutely aware of our impact on the environment. All of our tours display a carbon footprint, and we strive to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our tours and embracing low-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which offer the added benefit of getting a closer connection with the destination and local community.

Environment and Wildlife

We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
During this trip, we will explore numerous national parks and reserves. The entrance fees are used to support the maintenance and continued protection of the wildlife and natural habitats. This includes Bwindi National Park, where 100% of the profits go towards the preservation and protection of the endangered Mountain Gorilla.
In Volcanoes National Park we also have a number of optional free tours available including an educational visit to the Ellen Centre, the world's leading campus for research, conservation and protection the Mountain Gorilla.

We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community
We only employ local guides and crew members, giving economic benefits to the regions we travel through. We prioritize community-run accommodations over all-inclusive chain resorts, which tend to have a much larger carbon footprint and use more imported foodstuffs.
