The Pacific Ocean Islands cover an enormous area and can be split into three major cultural regions: Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia. In Melanesia you’ll find destinations including the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Tonga, and the most visited of all, Fiji. Moving east you cross the international date line and get to Polynesia, including Samoa, the Cook Islands, French Polynesia, the Pitcairns and, most easterly, Easter Island.

The South Pacific is ideal for small ship cruising. On our longer holidays you might explore French Polynesia, crossing between Tahiti and the remote and lesser-visited Marquesas Islands. Alternatively, explore Melanesia between Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The South Pacific is so large that cruises necessitate days at sea – but illuminating lectures by local naturalists and researchers will make the time pass quickly.
On shorter cruises, our small ships are a great way to see more islands, and more places. Islands without runways can only be seen by boat, and by going to them you are bringing tourism income to communities who might not get many visitors. By going in a smaller boat you can visit smaller ports and bays where bigger boats cannot go, guaranteeing you a more secluded and special experience.

Swimming with humpback whales
Humpback whales breed and give birth in the South Pacific, making Tonga and French Polynesia amazing destinations where you can, not just see humpback whales in the wild, but swim with them, as well as their newborn calves. Boats use hydrophones (microphones in the water) to listen for singing whales, and take small numbers of guests to pay a visit.

The cruise was wonderful. One of the reasons I chose was that it was part cargo ship / part passenger. Crew were all lovely, they couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. And the same all the islands we visited. Even at the craft stalls it never felt as though they were just after our money!read more

Swimming with humpback whales including whale babies was a dream come true. And listening to whale songs while under water allowed you to feel the sound vibrations. It was awesome!

Fantastic. Hapai Beach Resort was peaceful, calm and really nicely run. The staff were superb, friendly and very helpful. The food was good too.read more
