Our family holidays in Sri Lanka
Our family holidays to Sri Lanka make adventure easy, expertly rolling activities, wildlife, beach and culture into one kid-friendly package. They don’t just skim the surface either, inviting you to stay at smaller, locally run accommodation, including boutique hotels, ecolodges, campsites and family homestays. Visits to national parks reveal wildlife wonders like leopards; you even have the chance to get stuck into elephant conservation projects. In the company of local guides, you’ll also get an education in the many island cultures – whether walking through tea hills to Little Adam’s Peak, riding a tuk tuk past multicolour Hindu temples, or joining a market visit and cooking class.

Sri Lanka family holiday highlights
Action-packed adventures
One thing is for sure: no one will be bored on our family holidays to Sri Lanka. We can sign you up for bike tours of Anuradhapura, white-water rafting on the Kelaniya River, sunrise mountain hikes, train journeys between misty tea plantations, and tuk tuk rides through the mountain roads. There are less full-on activities, too. Our trips forge great relationships with the communities en route, with some villages inviting visitors to stay for lunch or to visit family-run coconut plantations that show how all parts of the fruit are used in Sri Lankan cuisine, from roots to husk.
Elephants, big cats & beyond
Sri Lanka is home to a cast of storybook wildlife. Our holidays give you the chance to see leopards, elephants, blue whales and sea turtles in the company of brilliant local guides who know their favourite hangouts – and how to observe them responsibly. They’ll also direct you to the unexpected wildlife encounters, like the giant fruit bats snoozing from the trees of city parks, eagles soaring around Sigiriya, and monkeys leaping between the ruins of Polonnaruwa. We have family-friendly volunteering opportunities with elephants too, monitoring numbers and helping to support practical solutions for human-elephant conflict.
Tailor made itineraries
Most or our family holidays to Sri Lanka are tailor made, giving you the chance to tweak the itinerary to your gang’s interests and needs. There’s so much to see and do – but our experts will listen to your requirements and create an itinerary that suits you, sprinkled with unexpected treats along the way, such as lesser-visited wildlife reserves or hotels that have their own vegetable gardens. Tailor made itineraries also give you the chance to slow things down a bit, adding in a few extra days here and there to take everything in, or to finish with a few days at the beach.
Small group trips
Our small group tours run to fixed itineraries designed by our Sri Lanka family holiday experts. To reduce time on the road, itineraries focus on a region – perhaps the centre-west, taking in the Cultural Triangle and surf beaches of the south. Or they might reach for the east, to the calm sandy bay of Pasikuda. Group sizes are usually around 15 people, so you’ll be able to make great connections with other families and the local tour leaders and guides. Meanwhile, swapping a big coach for a smaller van gives you access to rural roads and smaller villages, all without crowding out local people.
