Dubrovnik and the Islands activity holiday

Description of Dubrovnik and the Islands activity holiday
Starting a Croatia activity holiday in Dubrovnik means that you not only get to make the most of this stunning coastline, but also the cultural magnificence of its finest medieval city, Dubrovnik. A city that has two of the most beautiful backdrops: The Konavle Valley and the archipelago, in particular the Elaphiti Islands, with three nights of this holiday spent on the island of Lopud.
This holiday starts with a total immersion in the Adriatic, as sea kayaking in Croatia is the way to see both the archipelago and of course the mainland from a very different perspective. You will stay on Lopud Island where you will not only be able to kayak from one beach to another, but also enjoy the stunning through woodland, lemon groves, traditional villages and fine local food. The village where we stay dates back to the 16th century, with Renaissance churches and ancient mansions making this one of the archipelago’s prettiest locations.
For the rest of the trip, you will be based in Dubrovnik, but spending the daytime in the Konavle Valley, very much off the tourist trail. With its rocky coastline, luscious hills and red roofed traditional stone houses overlooking the azure Adriatic, you will see why it has become known as the Dubrovnik Riviera. Albeit a very natural and peaceful one.

The kayaking was extremely good and we ate plenty of very fine meals. We really enjoyed the day which involved kayaking to and from Sipan and cycling across the island. Read full reviewReviewed on 19 Jul 2017 by Helene Cook

We had a great time - its a really good holiday for a family with older kids (young adults really), where everyone is fairly active but want different things from a holiday. the operator was responsive, relaxed and helpful. Our island guides were expert kayakers but were also patient with the not-so-expert guests. Read full reviewReviewed on 01 Jul 2016 by James Megarry
The team made us feel at home, went the extra mile, and as we all said, we want to come back sometime in the future. Read full reviewReviewed on 26 Aug 2015 by Lisa Fogden

It was a great holiday. The idea of a few days in a city (Dubrovnik) and then a few days out on the islands is a great combination. Read full reviewReviewed on 02 Aug 2015 by Joy Curran

Brilliant definitely one of the best holidays....All the guides and Ivana were great. It was a good variety of activities which kept all the family happy. We stayed in 3 different locations and I liked the fact that we kayaked to the 3rd location, from Sipan to Loped and our luggage was there when we arrived. Read full reviewResponsible Travel

The Konavle Cliffs Educational Trail, where we hike, shows the local endemic species of the region. We work with small groups with maximum of eight participants, making sure that their stay is in accordance with the local community habits and nature protection. Our guides emphasize on the importance of leaving the environment as it is. We observe the wild life life but we do not disturb it.In our tour packages we include the tourist tax which is collected by the community of Konavle and is used for financing the local projects for protection of the flora and fauna in Konavle valley. We also include the entrance fee to the Nature Park Ljuta River and thus support financing of maintenance of the Nature Park. Every year during the off season our guides participate in marking the hiking trails in the mountains of Konavle.
Part of our program also includes sea kayaking. We support the slogan: Help Us Keep the Adriatic Clean. If we find plastic objects in the sea while kayaking we collect them and proceed for recycling. Our kayaks are made of recycable plastic. They do not cause any form of air or water pollution and they do not produce noise that could be disturbing for marine life.
People
Konavle valley is rural area south east from Dubrovnik, where people have still preserved traditional way of living. The chief economy is agriculture and during the last ten years local authorities are working on development of rural tourism which is becoming an important source of income for the local inhabitants. Recently rural tourism is creating many jobs and helps development of small entrepreneurship among the local people: restaurants, bed & breakfast facilities, art galleries, family owned wineries, adventure activities. In our program we only include the service providers from the local villages. We work with local, family owned restaurants where the food is prepared with fresh ingredients from the farms and gardens in Konavle valley. The local homes we chose for our guests offer genuine Mediterranean charm. We employ only local guides who are familiar with nature, people and tradition of the region. We include the visit to the museum that celebrates local traditions and folklore heritage. The money collected from the entrance fees is used for reconstruction and maintenance of the cultural monuments of Konavle region. We closely cooperate with local cultural institutions and we point our visitors towards local cultural festivals (Dubrovnik Summer Festival) and similar manifestations. We suggest to our travelers visits to historically, culturally and environmentally important sights
