What is a budget walking holiday?
If you love hiking, you’ll know that a good walk doesn’t need bells and whistles so long as you’ve got your boots. Our budget walking holidays take you to some fantastic destinations with a wealth of gorgeous scenery. Budget friendly walking doesn’t mean hardship, hard beds and heavy rucksacks – on our small group walking holidays you’re still getting luggage transfers and an expert guide. Staying in comfortable but more basic accommodation helps keep costs down, and if you’re opting for small, cosy and locally run guest houses over chain hotels, you’ll get to know the local area far better, too.
Where can I go?
Some destinations are easier on the wallet of the humble hiker than others. Look to Europe for well established hiking destinations with a good selection of budget accommodation like Croatia, France and Italy, which are threaded with scenic hiking routes. We love Spain – and a walk along one of the Camino de Santiago routes is a great way to channel your inner pilgrim, staying in inexpensive bunk houses along the way. Consider Greece too, where you can use the ferry to island-hop between your coastal hikes and enjoy delicious dishes with even more delectable vistas from family run tavernas.

You have to be prepared to go with the flow, at donkey's pace - but for my 9 year old daughter, who is a reluctant walker, it was the best thing in the world to see her getting up early by choice to get donkey ready, and enjoying time in nature... A perfect holiday!read more
