Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

For us, nature has always come first. We have a strong track record in operating holidays which are low impact on the environment, but high impact in experience, and are proud to be on our way to being Travelife certified.

Activities on this holiday have a minimal environment impact, such as hiking, kayaking and cycling, and are guided by locals, supporting the growth of an outdoor adventure economy which puts protecting nature at its heart.

As such, our tour leaders will encourage you to behave in an eco-friendly manner at all times by supporting the Leave No Trace principles – travelling where possible along marked water channels or footpaths, disposing of waste properly, leaving what you find (unless it’s other people’s rubbish!), respecting wildlife and being considerate of other visitors and the local community.

Travel by car has been minimised in favour of slow travel, staying in a single location for a week with short trips, when needed, to the start point for amazing adventures in nature.

Your visit will help to develop and sustain a different, more positively impacting form of tourism for Ston and the nearby Neretva Delta, two precious wildlife areas which deserve longer stays and more sensitive visitors than bucket list tick boxers there for a day.

This tour also includes a Book To Give Back donation to our handpicked local environmental causes via networks our company founders have formed over two decades living and working in the Western Balkans. As one of the leading sustainable tour operators in this region, it is up to us to lead by example, protecting areas of immense natural beauty from over-development and species loss and ensuring their beauty can be enjoyed for generations to come.

People

Our partners behind this holiday are a local family from Dubrovnik-Neretva Country who are passionate about fostering the positive impacts of tourism for their local community, from creating jobs and reasons to stay, to helping maintain centuries-old traditions, from salt-making, oyster-farming and fishing, to producing wine, cheese, olive oil, honey and flavoured brandies. You will be taken to visit boutique-producers and by buying their wares, you will build pride and contribute to the local economy.

All guides are locally recruited, trained and paid a fair wage, well above the industry average. Accommodation is also locally-owned – our policy is to actively prefer those small, family-owned hotels, chalets and apartments as the best way to keep money in the local area.

Croatia has been developing at a pace, yet pockets like some parts of Peljasac and the Neretva Delta have been overlooked. Your visit really counts, helping to spread the benefits of tourism to more remote, isolated communities and avoid contributing to the over-tourism crisis of more obvious holiday choices.
