Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Croatia family activity week

Private transport for guests on the Island is not recommended. We will provide pick up and drop off to and from the ferry along with transport to and from local restaurants.

Our daily transport will pre dominantly involve a combination of kayak, bicycle and foot. This is by for the best way to explore the many colour’s of Vis Island and it is far more suited to our goal of enjoying and preserving the beauty of Vis.

Certain days may include a picnic in an isolated bay – guests will be actively involved in the process of carrying out waste.

All water in guest rooms is heated through solar energy and we have installed a new drainage system to collect rainwater from all the roof area of the property. This can be then used to water the lemon tree, herb garden, vines, and be used at times should the water supply to temporarily suspended.

We adopt a local beach in the winter and clean it after winter storms leave there mark.

There as been resurgence in agro-tourism on the island. A number of small, private lots, growing grapes, olives, and lavender are beginning to appear. A tour of one of these initiatives to revive the ‘old’ trades will be highly recommended. Another important area of economic growth on the island is the restaurants – guests will eat out and sample their delights on 4 evenings out of 7.

We are lucky on Vis to have a number of excellent producers of fruit, vegetables, honey, a variety of jams, goats cheese, olive oil and wines - where ever possible buy local and are able to do this for a large portion of our goods.

A number of extra activities can be booked through local operators, on ‘YODA’ (Your Own Day of Activity) we have a list of activities and local providers to suit all needs, for example:
- boat trip from Komiza to the Blue Cave on Bisevo
-paragliding tandem jump
Scuba diving (beginner to experienced dives)
boat, car, scooter rental

Kayaking for the first time! The sea around Vis is stunning and the views from the water are something else. Craig and Xania are great instructors. Impressively relaxed with our diverse group, the youngest of whom was six. I was the only true beginner but I didn't feel out of place. Read full review

Most memorable? Kayaking into caves, the kids jumping off rocks and cliffs, swimming off kayaks in the clearest blue water, mountain biking through vineyards to a fishing village. Early morning yoga and a swim off the rocks afterwards. Read full review
