Scandinavia is home to some seriously memorable seasonal spectacles. Summer welcomes the midnight sun, and long days for swimming and walking. Then there’s the autumn equinox: a great time to catch the aurora at its liveliest, and amongst coppery forests to boot. Scandi cities have a habit of living up to their reputations as walkable, welcoming style hubs. Whether it’s Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki or Tromso, our local guides will introduce you to the best design museums and too-cool-for-school restaurants, branching out to gems that escape the usual top 10 listicles. Head north of the Arctic Circle, and we can introduce you to Sápmi and Sámi culture, putting you in touch with Indigenous reindeer farmers, chefs, artists and campsite hosts for feasting and campfires.

It’s easy to go flight-free when exploring Scandinavia. The whole region is blessed with an excellent and easily navigable transport system that includes trains, ferries, buses and cycle paths. Even the Arctic can be reached without flying, thanks to trains running to Lapland and cruises that sail up to Tromso just in time to catch the arriving orcas. Snow? No problem. Follow in the footsteps of the Sámi, who have long used wooden reindeer sleds and cross country skis to travel. There are husky rides to consider too – perhaps the most fun way of all to cross the Arctic.
