Memorable parts? The scenery and spirituality of Bhutan is unique and a once in a lifetime experience for my family. Tips? Even in late spring weather was unpredictable. I would be trekking with shorts and a tee shirt in the morning, long pants and fleece in afternoon and wishing for ski gear in the evening before going to bed. Local benefits? Definitely the friendly hosts at the casa particulars, so happy & helpful, given my limited Spanish, that made it even better in a way, so we both had to 'work' at communicating. The historical areas w/ good guides, helped to bring history alive. We tried to decide this as a family and it was all so good it was hard so here is a selection:- The food - absolutely delicious everywhere we went, even the meal cooked by our guide in a Tay minority homestead where we ate with the family and drank rice wine welcome shots. Memorable parts? Volunteering at the animal sanctuary, Venado caves, white water rafting, all the guides and their animal spotting skills. Tips? Take cagoules for the regular downpours and torches for frog spotting/ night safaris. Try to pack light as there is a lot of moving around. My girlfriend and I had an amazing time visiting Korcula Island. We spent an incredible 5 days Island hopping, Exploring the everything they had to offer, guided by local experts, slowing making our way around them. Memorable parts? We took horse riding lessons nearby. I am a wheelchair user, but the instructor/owner got me on the horse and was very encouraging and helpful teaching me beginners dressage. The contrasts in landscape, flora, fauna, people, buildings, wealth, weather, food, transport and so forth were just extraordinary in the true sense of the word in the Galapagos.
